Skills That Grow with Them: Supporting OT, PT, and Communication in Everyday Life
Description

Join our collaborative team of a speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist, and physical therapist for a dynamic and family-friendly presentation created for caregivers of individuals with Angelman Syndrome ages 7–15. This session is all about empowering families with practical, realistic strategies that fit into everyday life—especially outside the clinic and outdoors. We’ll start by highlighting common developmental needs and strengths for school-age children and adolescents with Angelman Syndrome across communication, sensory-motor, self-care, mobility, and participation. Using a chronological-age lens, our therapists will explain what challenges often emerge during this stage and how speech, OT, and PT goals naturally overlap. From there, families will take an active role by: Identifying one priority skill they’d like their child to improve (such as functional communication, endurance, coordination, independence, or social participation), and Designing one simple outdoor activity that practices that skill using an integrated, whole-child approach. Think movement games, neighborhood walks, community play, or backyard challenges—activities that encourage communication, motor skills, and regulation all at once. You’ll leave with ideas that are easy to adapt, motivating for your child, and meaningful for your family’s routines. Come connect, collaborate, and discover how every outdoor moment can become an opportunity for growth—with support that works across therapies and real life.
