Laura Baroncelli is Research Director at the Institute of Neuroscience of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), Pisa, and heads the Research Group for Metabolic Inherited Disorders at the IRCCS Fondazione Stella Maris. Her research focuses on rare neurodevelopmental disorders, with particular emphasis on Creatine Transporter Deficiency, Angelman syndrome, Fragile X syndrome, and autism spectrum disorders. 

Dr. Baroncelli received her PhD in Neurobiology from the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and has held research appointments at the University Medical Center Göttingen and Boston Children's Hospital. She leads a multidisciplinary research team investigating disease mechanisms, circuit dysfunction, and therapeutic strategies using animal models, patient-derived tissues, gene therapy, nanomedicine, and advanced functional neuroimaging. Her current research aims to identify neural circuit alterations underlying neurodevelopmental disorders, develop objective cross-species biomarkers for treatment monitoring, and translate these findings into innovative therapeutic approaches for rare genetic diseases. She has authored over 65 peer-reviewed publications and has been invited to present her work at numerous international scientific meetings.
