Elizabeth Buttermore, PhD, is the Director of Translational In Vitro Models in the Translational Neuroscience Center at Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH), where she leads the Human Neuron Core and the Neurological Biorepository. She earned her BS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Richmond and her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of North Carolina, followed by postdoctoral training in Dr. Clifford Woolf’s lab at BCH, where she developed stem cell–derived nociceptor differentiation protocols and screens for painful neuropathies. Following her postdoc, Dr. Buttermore established the Human Neuron Core’s phenotyping service, supporting researchers through functional, morphological, and transcriptomic analyses.

As Director of Translational In Vitro Models, she now leads initiatives to identify phenotypes in patient-specific iPSC-derived neurons and leverage those for assay development and screening. Her work aims to build tools and resources that strengthen preclinical pipelines and accelerate discovery of therapeutic targets for neurodevelopmental disorders.
